Why recoat vs replace

What cut edge corrosion is

Profiled metal roof and cladding sheets have a factory-applied coating system. When sheets are cut to size during installation, the cut edges expose bare metal underneath. Over 10-20 years, weather attacks these edges, rust spreads, capillary action draws water into laps, and the entire roof eventually fails.

Treated early, cut edge corrosion is reversed. Left untreated, it forces a full roof replacement.

Why preparation determines performance

Coating systems only perform when the substrate is prepared to the specified cleanliness grade. Sa 2.5 for steel. Sound substrate for masonry. Properly profiled metal for adhesion.

Painters skip this because it's expensive and time-consuming. We don't — because the system is only as good as what sits underneath it.

Every preparation method we use is documented. ISO 8501 grades photographed, substrate conditions logged — the record specialist coating systems are designed around.

Why laser matters for heritage

Sandblasting and chemical strippers cause damage that can't be undone on listed and period substrates. Laser cleaning removes paint, rust, and contamination without touching the original fabric underneath.

It's also non-abrasive, chemical-free, and quiet, important on occupied properties and in residential areas.

This capability is rare in the Midlands. Most contractors outsource laser work or refuse it. We do it in-house.

Our story

Develux Ltd was founded to do protective coatings properly. The industry is full of painters describing themselves as coatings contractors, but actual coating work requires manufacturer approval, documented preparation methods, and the discipline to walk away from work where standards can't be met.

Founded and led by Ghennadi Catansus, the company has built relationships with TOR Coatings and HD Sharman, two of the UK's leading specialist manufacturers, and holds CHAS Gold accreditation, the gold-standard supply-chain qualification for the construction industry.

We work primarily across the Midlands, with capacity for nationwide work on specialist industrial projects.

Ghennadi Catansus founded Develux Ltd to deliver protective coatings work to manufacturer specification, not to decorator standards. He leads every site survey, signs off every written specification, and is personally accountable for the quality of every project the company delivers.

His background is on the tools — applying coating systems on industrial buildings, listed metalwork, and high-value residential properties across the Midlands — before building Develux into a manufacturer-approved contractor.
